We’re unofficially designating August as Mt. Ashland month! You have two chances to run/hike/walk to the summit and enjoy some amazing views, beat the heat, and escape the smoke.
First off, the Mt. Ashland Hillclimb - Footrace virtual race kicks off August 1 and runs through the end of the month. Start in Lithia Park, end at the summit. It’s that “easy.” All proceeds go directly to the AWTA. Get registered here: https://ultrasignup.com/register.aspx?did=75037
Our August run challenge, Crawl to the Ball, takes you to the summit of Mt. Ashland and that big white ball waiting for you at the top. Here’s how it will work:
The start/finish line will be the Mt. Ashland lodge, right under the big “Mt. A” sign. From here, you’ll follow the new Mt. A Summit Trail that takes you up and around the eastern face of the mountain, summiting just below the big white ball, and then descend back down the service road, back towards the main parking lot on the NF 20 Road, and finish back at the lodge. The route is approximately 4 miles with close to 1000 ft of climb.
Fastest men’s and women’s times, along with most Crawls in a day and in the month of August will win some Woodlands Running Co. swag. We will also raffle off a couple of entries to the Twin Peaks Trail Runs with everyone participating in the challenge eligible to win. Run both events and get an extra entry into the drawing. Special awards will be given out to the fastest combined time (male and female) of the Hillclimb and the Crawl.
